We deliver 29 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 370,000 residents. 

The role
CBCity has a rewarding opportunity for a Graduate Strategic Planner to bring new, innovative ideas and contribute to planning one of Sydney's most dynamic areas.

In this role, you will learn a range of strategic planning functions by supporting projects that span across four teams within the City Strategy and Design unit. This includes the Strategic Planning team, the Strategic Assessment team, the City Shaping Projects team and the Urban Design team. This will give you the opportunity to contribute on a range of projects and gain exposure to different planning processes and stakeholders. 

This role is being offered on a temporary full-time basis until January 2026.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Provide input into the review and revisions of Council's city-wide planning policies such as the Employment Lands Zone reforms and residential controls review.
  • Support the delivery of Council's place-based Master Plans.
  • Work between the planning and urban design teams to ensure good design is embedded into planning projects.
  • Collaborate and effectively communicate across the unit and Council to achieve best-practice planning outcomes.
  • Assist in the preparation of advice and submissions.

You will have:

  • Completion of a recognised tertiary qualification in a field such as urban and regional planning, urban design, town planning, or related qualification providing eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant environmental planning and local government legislation, and an ability to interpret the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the preparation of presentation material.
  • Ability to consult, share information, and work collaboratively within a team and across an organisation.

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $69,728 (Grade D, Step 1) + 11.5% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
