The Role
As the Head of Financial Management at Georges River Council, you will support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) by leading the Financial Management team to ensure the application of sound financial management principles and the transparent reporting of Council's financial performance, by maintaining the integrity of the General Ledger (GL) and all financial accounting records.
- Coordinate, plan and lead the Financial Management team to deliver on their key accountabilities
- Ensure Council’s financial activities and reporting are compliant with relevant legislation
- Enhance and ensure the accuracy and integrity of the GL, Subsidiary Ledgers (SL) and financial accounting records and processes
- Coordinate the preparation and delivery of Council’s Annual Financial Statements in a timely manner
- Manage and coordinate council staff to deliver and respond to annual audit requirement
- Facilitate the development and provision of financial reporting as requested
- Establish controls to enable accurate expenditure against approved budget relating to development contribution

- Full time salary from $115,113.49 - $133,373.50 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
- Degree qualification in Accounting or Commerce
- CPA qualification or equivalent
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in financial/management accounting
- Demonstrated ability to function with minimal supervision and to lead, plan, organise and supervise staff to achieve operational and strategic objectives, and individual and team performance requirements, through the establishment and management of priorities and timeframes
- Excellent skills in the development of financial reporting and compliance with relevant statutory bodies, standards and legislation
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams to develop and implement training or improvements in financial management activities
- Proven ability to plan ahead and coordinate to meet deadlines, deliver financial accounting tasks, projects and desired outcomes in a timely manner with a high standard of accuracy, under time pressures
- Proven experience in strong commitment to customer service and ability to interact with all levels of staff in the organisation (both verbally and in writing)
- Proven commitment and ability to enhance the accuracy of data and accounting records
- Proven ability to recommend and drive the implementation of solutions for improving the operations, integrity of information and controls within a finance system
- Commitment to professional development, including, keeping up to date with relevant legislation, requirements of the Office of Local Government, policies and procedures, system enhancements, best practice in financial system controls and reporting frameworks
Desirable
- Proven skills and experience in audit and process improvement
- Working knowledge of Technology One Accounting System
- Knowledge of Taxation obligations of Local Government (particularly GST and FBT)
