The role & you

We are looking for a dedicated and proactive Health and Safety Advisor to join us and take a leading role in safeguarding the wellbeing of our employees and ensuring the smooth, safe operation of our organisation.

The Health and Safety Advisor will be responsible for promoting a safe and healthy environment across MidCoast Council. This pivotal role involves assisting with the implementation and monitoring of safety measures, policies, and procedures, while ensuring a proactive approach to managing workplace risks and hazards. You will work closely with the Coordinator Work, Health, and Safety to deliver health and safety training, conduct site visits, and support employee wellbeing.

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of work health and safety practices, strong communication skills, and the ability to engage with employees at all levels. You should be proactive in supporting the delivery of safety outcomes, advising workers on all aspects of health and safety including physical, mental, and psychosocial wellbeing. You will also assist with coordinating safety and wellbeing projects, including surveys, campaigns, and policy development. Managing return-to-work programs and fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders will also be key components of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the implementation and ongoing monitoring of strategic health and safety initiatives, ensuring they align with organisational priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with managers, supervisors, coordinators, and team leaders to advise and support the delivery of health and safety outcomes.
  • Provide expert advice and support to employees on all health and safety matters, including physical, mental, and psychosocial wellbeing. This will involve conducting site visits, toolbox talks, training sessions, and other communication methods.
  • Support the coordination of safety and wellbeing projects, including surveys, campaigns, and the development of new systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in managing return-to-work programs, ensuring safe and supportive reintegration of staff after illness or injury.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to foster a culture of safety and collaboration.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $83,400 p.a. - $91,700 p.a. plus superannuation. 

A vehicle arrangement will be made with the successful candidate for this role. Council will provide you with a leaseback vehicle for an annual fee calculated as 20% of the gross purchase price. This is a fully maintained vehicle for both business and full private use with no additional expenses in normal use.

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You will also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
