The Opportunity
Bellingen Shire Council has an exciting Capital Works program planned for the coming years. We’ll be investing over $20M on local road infrastructure in the coming years, alongside a large capital works program planned on our State Road, Waterfall Way.
Reporting to the Works Supervisor, the Heavy Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of heavy and medium plant equipment for a range of maintenance and construction projects. In this role, you will ensure each job site meets safety standards, oversee plant maintenance and daily inspections, and support safe, efficient project delivery.
To be successful in this position, you’ll need a current NSW Class HC Driver Licence and WHS General Induction Training (White Card). While a Certificate III in Civil Construction and other relevant certifications are desirable, extensive experience in heavy truck operation and at least one additional plant type such as a grader or excavator will be essential. Familiarity with traffic control, small plant, and other related tools will also set you up well for this role.
This role requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and solid communication skills to lead a small team effectively. You’ll need to have the initiative to adapt work methods, a knack for solving problems on-site, and the confidence to interact with the public when required. Your ability to manage daily site activities, complete necessary documentation, and deliver results to a high standard will ensure your success as a valuable part of our team.
