Purpose of the role
Bayside’s parks and gardens are high profile and their presentation exemplifies our commitment to residents and visitors alike.
The Horticultural Management Officer is responsible for the planning, allocation, supervision, monitoring and completion of all horticultural management activities within the Landscape Services team.
This role is pivotal to ensuring that not only are planned programs implemented and adhered to and that teams are agile and responsive to unplanned requests for parks and gardens maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Within the area of responsibility, this role is required to:
- Supervise and guide the landscape team in all aspects of landscape maintenance activities and make decisions regarding required maintenance and management in line with Council policy and legislative and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate and administer contracts as allocated for high risk profile projects or where additional resources are required.
- Manage and monitor service delivery of providers and contractors to ensure standards are met within appropriate specifications.
- Assess, report on and maintain records on private and development assessment and Construction Certificate applications relating to landscape and turf components within open space areas, to assist with decision making and responses in regard to outcomes.
- Collate information, prepare briefs and reports on a variety of matters including but not limited to program status, performance and resource levels.
- Respond to customer and key stakeholder enquiries regarding landscape management within required timeframes.
- Manage the Client Relationship Management system to monitor the scheduling and completion of works
- Participate in community events and environmental projects
- Work in collaboration with and assist the team, manager and other key stakeholders to achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities.
Essential requirements:
- Minimum Horticulture Trade Certificate or higher qualifications and minimum two years relevant work experience.
- Working knowledge of public risk issues associated with Horticulture.
- A SafeWork NSW White Card (General Construction Induction card).
- Current Driver’s Licence Class C.
- Appropriate traffic control licence, minimum NSW implement traffic control plan.
- Work outside of normal hours as required

Closing Date: 13 January 2025
Salary Range: $81,938 – $91,771 (gross) per annum plus 11.5% superannuation.
