How you’ll make a difference

Victoria Daly Regional Council is looking for a full-time Human Resources & Safety Support Coordinator based in Katherine, NT. 

This position is hands on and will effectively be the key linkage between employees to provide awareness to enable employees to successfully fulfill their roles.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain strong employee relations with all employees and stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Provide sound HR & WHS advice and guidance to all employee across the Council to support effective workforce relations, workplace issues and ongoing employment.
  • Address HR matters that may occur including employee complaints, discipline, disputes, mediation, cultural barriers, attendance, wellbeing and performance matters providing early intervention, guidance and advice for positive outcomes. 
  • Provide information/education sessions to employees regarding HR and Work Health & Safety policies, procedures and practices that promote positive change in the workplace.
  • Assist the WHS Manager with development and implementation of all WHS plans, reports and other documentation as required.
  • Assist with inspections of Council assets, including buildings, plant, machinery, vehicles and equipment and provide detailed reports of findings.

As the Victoria Daly region has a large Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population, you will need to ensure cultural sensitivity and awareness across all activities.

TRAVEL REQUIRMENTS

This position is based in Katherine, and you will be required to undertake extensive travel, overnight stays in remote communities within the Victoria Daly Regional Council area. 

Additionally, you will join with the following skills and background:

  • Experience and knowledge of HR management and early intervention strategies across the broad spectrum of HR disciplines. 
  • Sound knowledge of the principles of Work Health & Safety.
  • Demonstrated planning, problem solving and organisational skills, including the effective management of multiple complex and high priority case management matters to meet conflicting deadlines and timeframes.
  • An awareness of issues affecting Indigenous people in remote locations and ability to operate effectively in a cross-cultural environment 
  • Sound decision making skills with an analytical and innovative approach to problem solving.
