Internal Auditor

  • Help optimise Bayside Council’s operational performance
  • Permanent Full Time Position, 35 hours per week
  • $115,947.74 - $129,861.55 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation

About the role

Provide an independent internal audit function in line with Council’s business objectives, legislative and professional standards and government guidelines.

The role is responsible to provide and coordinate the internal audit services to optimise Council’s operational performance, planning, management and decision-making.

You can also expect to:

  • Develop and implement the Audit Plan program to systematically target areas of risk,
  • Review Council operations and assess the level of compliance with legislation and Council policies and procedures.
  • Communicate audit outcomes to the General Manager and Audit Committee to inform organisational direction, strategy and action.
  • Identify opportunities for ‘value for money’ improvements and provide a consultancy service to management to facilitate and support development of business and action plans and strategies.
  • Coordinate recommendations received from investigative authorities and liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure responsive and compliant action.
  • Actively participate in Council’s Risk and Audit Committee to facilitate its roles and responsibilities, provide reports on status of audit recommendations, communicate with stakeholders and coordinate secretariat services
  • Conduct probity audits of tender processes for selected projects undertaken.
  • Undertake assessment and investigation of complaints relating to matters such as code of conduct breaches, non-compliance to legislation, policy and procedures to provide advice and recommendations to the Manager Governance and Risk.
  • Work collaboratively with Council’s external auditors to understand audit scope and to prepare affected business units for the conduct of external audits.
  • Oversight the work of outsourced providers to ensure adherence to the agreed scope of
  • Provide required communication and training to enhance staff awareness of issues and
  • Coordinate aspects of the Internal Audit budget in consultation with the Manager Governance and Risk.
  • Promote the positive and collaborative culture and values of the organisation through open, fair and transparent decision making and ethical, professional behavior.
  • Work in collaboration with and assist the team, manager and other key stakeholders to achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities.

About you

We are looking for a someone who demonstrates:

  • Tertiary or other qualifications and/or equivalent experience in relevant field
  • Membership, or eligibility for membership to the Institute of Internal Auditors Australia; CPA Australia or Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships
