Cabonne Council has an exciting opportunity in its Fleet & Depot team as an apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.

Start your career in Local Government. This role is full-time temporary position over four-years, with strong prospects for permanent employment at the completion of your Apprenticeship and great career progression opportunities.

In this four-year role you will complete study in the Certificate 3 in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology whilst contributing to, and developing practical skills in, the maintenance and repairs of Councils' mobile and fixed plant items.

The position is based out of Molong.

Position Activities

Work as a member of a team to undertake mechanical duties to assist in relevant works including:

  • Participation in, and successful completion of, all required training and other required evaluations.
  • Progress through the Apprenticeship milestones in a timely manner.
  • Participation and engagement in all workplace learning opportunities.
  • Assist department staff with day-to-day operations and learn about other aspects of Council.
  • Demonstrate ability to take on constructive feedback and improve performance.
  • Attend meetings and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Build professional relationships with colleagues and internal customers.

What Do You Need to Be Successful

Desirable

  • Completion of Year 10.
  • Construction Induction Certification (White Card).
  • Class C driver’s licence (or Provisional licence)

Skills and Experience

  • Must be able to complete basic maths, logic and English skills tests.
  • An interest in, and aptitude for, analysing, diagnosing and solving mechanical problems especially with diesel heavy earthmoving machinery.
  • Ability to set priorities and organise work.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to take direction and implement feedback on performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn.
