About the Opportunity

Council has opportunities for enthusiastic, motivated people to join the Transport Infrastructure Team in Orange as the Transport Area Supervisor.

The primary purpose of this role is to this role is to be responsible for coordinating and supervising the on-ground workforce, and external
contractors employed under your control, in the delivery of Council’s capital and maintenance
programmes ensuring all works are completed to a high standard. To have direct involvement with the planning, development, and establishment of Council’s
transport delivery programme, and contribute to the strategic long-term improvement of
Council’s transport delivery operations to enable Council to continue to meet its statutory
obligations as a Local Government Organisation.

Detailed Responsibilities

Supervision and Operational Activities

  • Oversee and effectively coordinate transport construction and maintenance activities
    including monitoring the maintenance methods of staff under your control and ensure they
    meet the guidelines provided by Council and that there is a focus on productivity.
  • Set out and supervise roadworks and other works in accordance with relevant legislative
    guidelines and procedures.
  • Thoroughly prepare for works and conduct crew briefings on work scopes.
  • Effectively lead and mentor staff and identify any training needs.
  • Attend meetings related to transport programme delivery matters and actively contribute to
    the discussion relating to the improvement of work teams and plant performance.
  • Effectively Communicate, solve, and discuss work problems with relevant staff/members
    of the public as required.

What Do You Need to Be Successful?

Essential

  • Construction Induction Certification (White Card).
  • Class C drivers' licence.
  • Traffic Management Plan Designer qualification.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to understand and follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a team-based approach, reliability and punctuality, with a proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Displays a positive attitude.

Desirable

  • Certificate III Civil Construction.
  • High Risk Work Licence for regulated plant

Skills and Experience

  • At least three years demonstrated experience in a similar role in the civil construction
    industry.
  • Experience working in a local government setting.
  • Previous supervisory experience with proven ability to resolve interpersonal conflict.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in civil construction operations.
  • Experience and ability in reading and interpreting plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to manage time, set priorities and organize own work and that of subordinate
    employees.
  • Ability to perform calculations and estimates.

Other details relating to this position

  • Employment is under the Local Government (State) Award 2023.
  • This position is graded 8-9 in Council's salary system.
  • Gross weekly wage range is $1439.10 to $1688.80 dependent upon qualifications and experience.
