An exciting opportunity has arisen in Council’s Legal Services team, and you don’t want to miss it! You’ll report to and have the chance to work closely with Council’s Corporate Lawyer, providing support on all areas within the team’s practice. What this role involves:
• Appearing in the local court and other courts and tribunals as required
• Undertaking research and providing legal advice
• Work on many different aspects of Council’s property matters, such as advising on leasing and licensing and drafting and negotiating lease agreements
• Briefing external law firms and experts
• Managing responses to subpoenas
• Working under the supervision of Council’s Corporate Lawyer
What are we seeking in our new team member:
• Someone who values strong relationships and has a desire to contribute to a great team culture
• Admission as a solicitor in NSW
• 3-5 years’ post admission experience in law, with experience in or exposure to local or state government matters an advantage
• Advanced legal research skills and the ability to provide concise, timely advice
• Demonstrated ability to advise on property transactions and conduct drafting and negotiating of leases
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
• Someone who is highly motivated and can work both independently and as part of a team
• Some experience as an advocate in courts or tribunals
