We are seeking a Leading Hand to oversee daily reuse operations and supervise the tip shop, helping to divert waste from landfill through the sale of recovered items. Reporting to the Resource Recovery Supervisor – Waste Management, you will ensure high-quality customer service, maintain shop operations, and contribute to marketing and community education initiatives. This hands-on role involves supervising staff, volunteers, and contractors, managing sales and cash handling, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. About the role:

  • reports to the Resource Recovery Supervisor Waste Management
  • manage staff and coordinate the daily activities of Council’s tip shop at the Tweed Recycling and Landfill Centre
  • manage onsite functions associated with the recovery and sale of goods at the tip shop
  • responsible for the daily onsite reuse operations and supervision of the tip shop with the purpose to drive the diversion of waste through sales
  • delivers a high levels of customer service and maintain the shops operations to generate income and productivity
  • requires well developed communication and problem solving skills
  • busy work environment, responsive to customer demands and requires regular adjustment of priorities and activities.
  • ensures procedures outlined in the Construction Safety Act and Work Health and Safety Act are followed to ensure the safety of the general public and other workers.

What's on offer:

  • a base salary ranging from $63,935 per annum with competency-based increments up to $73,252 per annum, plus 11.5% super
  • 38 hours per week, 9 day fortnight, Tuesday - Saturday. RDO every second Tuesday.

  • great customer service skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with residents and internal staff
  • team supervisor experience 
  • experience in the operation of Council plant.

Where it's located:

This position is based at Stott's Creek Resources Recovery Centre (Eviron) and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
