We have 7 community libraries across our local government area, including Blacktown, Mount Druitt, Stanhope Gardens, Riverstone, Lalor Park, a temporary library at Marsden Park, and our mobile library service.

We offer a wide range of services to our community including but not limited to, borrowing services, a digital library, study support services, technology workshops, and multicultural, children and youth services. About the opportunity

We are seeking a motivated Library Technician to join our team on a permanent, part-time basis at Lalor Park Library. This position is 17.5 hours per week, and includes a weekend shift.

Our Customer Service team provides positive customer experiences and a welcoming environment for library visitors.

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide outstanding customer service
  • Deliver high quality community-focused programs
  • Work closely with colleagues
  • Help customers to access our full range of library services.

You are well-suited to this role if you are a skilled communicator and enjoy helping people. You also need well-developed technology skills, a valid Working with Children Check and a current class C driver's licence. Good knowledge of cultural trends is also advantageous.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Library Technician Diploma, Associate Diploma or equivalent, as recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Previous library experience
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to a customer focused service
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and independently
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills
  • Relevant computer skills
  • Current class C driver’s licence
  • Working with Children Check number.

Desirable:

  • First aid certification
  • Ability to speak a community language.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,316.09 per week, pro-rata
  • 17.5 hour working week 
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 11.5% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.

This position has been identified as child related work, in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Regulation 2013.
