The Role
The Manager of Communications and Engagement plays a key leadership role in shaping and delivering the strategic direction of the service portfolio. This role holds full accountability for ensuring that the Council’s communication and engagement practices are proactive, contemporary, and impactful. A critical focus will be on ensuring key messages effectively reach all relevant sections of the community.

About You
The ideal candidate will have qualifications in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or Public Relations, and at least 10 years of senior experience in complex, high-pressure settings. They should be skilled at managing politically sensitive issues with strategic insight and comfortable working with executives, elected officials, and external partners. Strong knowledge of traditional and social media, along with a record of driving improvement through innovative communication, is essential.
Leadership and teamwork are crucial, including experience leading teams and delivering public engagement programs. The role suits a self-driven, detail-focused professional who can meet tight deadlines, make sound decisions, and communicate effectively at all levels. Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills are also required to build and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally.
Our Region
Nestled between one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and the World Heritage listed Wet Tropics rainforest, is the beautiful Cassowary Coast Region. Consisting of coastal and hinterland communities with 30,000 residents across the major townships of Cardwell, Mission Beach, Tully and Innisfail.
