Salary Range: $1,155 - $1,319 per 38 hour week + superannuation
Are you a skilled and passionate mechanic with a drive to ensure vehicles and equipment are in top working condition? Do you want to play an integral role in keeping our community moving, with reliable Council vehicles and equipment?
We are seeking a qualified mechanic to join our team. You will provide essential repairs, maintenance, and servicing for a wide range of Council vehicles and equipment, including light plant fleet, graders, four-wheel drives, tractors, garbage trucks, and other equipment. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that our fleet operates efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively, contributing to the successful delivery of community services and ensuring our fleet meets Council and industry standards. You will schedule and perform regular servicing, manage service records, and provide on-the-road support for vehicle breakdowns to minimize disruption to Council operations. Your technical expertise will be crucial in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues, as well as advising on plant specifications and liaising with external contractors and sales teams when needed.
As mechanic, you will provide both worksite and roadside support, attending vehicle breakdowns as needed and providing on-the-road support to ensure minimal disruption to Council operations.
Working closely with the Workshop Supervisor and internal teams, you will foster effective communication and ensure safety standards are met at all times.

This position is located in the beautiful town of Coonabarabran, known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, which is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane and is known for its beautiful landscape and stunning night skies. The town has medical services, excellent schools, a variety of sporting and social clubs and a thriving tourism Industry. With the nearby Warrumbungle National Park, which is also Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, there is plenty to do and explore whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation.
Selection criteria include:
- Trade Certificate in Automotive or Plant Mechanics and the ability to work with a variey of mechanical systems
- Occupational Health & Safety Construction Induction Certificate (“Whitecard”)
- Class “HR” Drivers Licence
- Understanding of work health and safety (WHS) in an industrial workshop environment
- Experience in repair of heavy vehicles
- MIG welding experience
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Thorough knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatic systems
It's a plus if you have a current Authorised Inspection Station Examiner’s Licence, experience working with heavy vehicles and the ability to carry out fabrication work and follow plans.
