Description
Provide strategic advice and support to build and protect Council's reputation through proactive media relations, effective issue and crisis / incident management and informing, educating and engaging the Tweed community through social media channels.
You will lead and coordinate the media and social media program by managing the team and day-to-day operations including the weekly Tweed Link newspaper, online newsroom, media enquiries and releases and social media content creation, planning, reporting and channel and community management.
About the role:
- respond to media enquiries and build relationships with media outlets, write and distribute media releases, maintain online newsrooms, attend Council meetings, coordinate media events and media monitoring services
- oversee and support staff to deliver all aspects of Council's social media channels
- coordinate the Tweed Link including editing, production and publishing
- oversee and support staff to deliver content creation and graphic design services
- an essential component of this role is media and social media operations in times of crisis and emergency management situations

We are seeking:
- a degree or postgraduate qualification in a discipline such as digital / new media, communications, public relations or journalism
- demonstrated media relations experience
- experience in managing multiple social media channels, platforms, online communities, direct message touchpoints and digital marketing and advertising
- experience in creating engaging and creative content using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar
- experience in issue management and critical incident / emergency response including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- exceptional writing, spelling and grammar skills with the ability to write in plain language, and with impact
- knowledge of and experience with the Tweed and regional media scene will be highly valued

Where it's located:
This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
