Museum & Gallery Officer – Georges River Council

Georges River Council, a leading and people-focused organization, is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Museum & Gallery Officer to join our dynamic team. As part of our Hurstville Museum & Gallery, you will contribute to our vision by providing administrative support across exhibitions, research, collections, and programs. This is a Temporary, part-time position (50 hours per fortnight) up to 30 June 2025 located in Hurstville CBD, just a 5-minute walk from the train station.

Position Details:

  • Temporary Contract, Part-Time (50 hours per fortnight) up to 30 June 2025
  • Work pattern:
  1. Week A: Wednesday (7 hours); Thursday (7 hours); Friday (7 hours).
  2. Week B: Saturday (5 hours); Sunday (4 hours); Monday (4 hours); Tuesday (7 hours); Wednesday (7 hours)
  • Salary range: $68,136.17 - $78,941.39 per annum (pro rata) plus 11.5% superannuation
  • Deliver innovative services that promote and support our community

    Responsibilities:

  • Assist with collection management, research, and database updates
  • Support the management, development, and implementation of exhibitions and programs
  • Contribute to education and public programs, including talks and presentations
  • Evaluate public and education programs and exhibitions
  • Assist with ad hoc duties related to programs and events
  • Provide exceptional customer service at the front desk
  • Process payments and bookings, ensuring accurate record-keeping
  • Monitor and maintain exhibition areas
  • Keep up-to-date visitor information and demographics
  • Ensure the security and proper opening/closing of the Museum & Gallery
  • Update website and brochure displays with the latest exhibitions, events, and programs

    Selection Process:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Museum Studies, Arts Administration, or Art History
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
  • Experience in a museum or gallery environment
  • Highly developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including effective negotiation, consultation and consensus building
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake primary research and handle historical enquiries
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with object handling, preparing exhibition content and/or public programming
  • Strong commitment to and proven ability to deliver a quality customer focused service for diverse clients and user groups
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change
