About the Opportunity

Parkes Shire Council is offering a dynamic role within its ICT team that will enhance your experience and challenge your skills and knowledge.  Council has a 240 strong office based and mobile workforce, which is dispersed across a number of business units and locations.  The Network Administrator will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and security of the organisation’s computer networks. This role involves delivering projects aligned with strategic and operational plans, managing networks, infrastructure, servers, and applications within both corporate and wide area network environments.  

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Regularly monitor and maintain network systems, including hardware and software, to ensure optimal performance and resolve any issues that arise, resolving any connectivity issues and ensuring they can effectively use network resources.
  • Provide level 2-3 technical support for requests related to network systems, IT infrastructure, backup and DR services, applications, and devices.
  • Install, configure, and support network equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Implement and manage security measures to protect the network from unauthorised access, including updating virus protection software and managing firewalls.
  • Utilise Microsoft 365 and application admin tools to implement cyber security improvements and meet compliance obligations.
  • Coordinate with contractors and Managed Service Providers for projects and complex issues.

About You

To excel in this role you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualification/s in ICT systems and networks or other relation qualification
  • Demonstrated 2-3 years experience in managing and maintaining computer systems and networks.
  • Knowledge of current practices relating to network security practices and legislation/standards for local government.
  • Excellent standard of IT literacy and advanced computer skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills, including a proven ability to set priorities, plan and organise workloads, and balance competing priorities to achieve specific objectives in the most efficient way possible, within the resources available. 
  • Current and maintained NSW Driver’s Licence.
  • Current and maintained clear national police history check.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Project Management certification.a related field.
  • Knowledge of the role, functions, and responsibilities of Local Government.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment. 

The role has been evaluated as being Grade 18 of the Council's salary structure and offers a competitive salary circa $81,500 - $93,700 (depending on skills and experience) plus super and salary packaging options to increase your take-home pay.
