Salary from: $75,011.16 up to $79,368.87 per annum plus superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications)

Each beach has its own unique challenges and conditions; therefore, we need a professional lifeguard with extensive experience who can confidently assess the conditions and adapt to changing environments. In this role you contribute to creating an Extraordinary Wollongong by maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for beach users, providing exceptional customer service to the community, while living and breathing our Values

About the role

As an Ocean Lifeguard, you will work as part of a dedicated and passionate team, who play a crucial role in ensuring public safety while balancing community needs with best practice in beach management. This hands-on, customer-focused role requires a high level of fitness and lifesaving skills, strong situational awareness and quick decision-making.

Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid NSW Working With Children Check.

You will need to be physically capable of undertaking the inherit duties of this role as outlined in the position description.

This role includes some weekend work, working 35 hours a week on a rotating 7-day roster. Overtime hours may be required.

What you will be doing:

  • Run day to day operations of beach and foreshore environment
  • Engage with the community, confidently passing on important safety information.
  • Provide rescue and emergency care when required.
  • Complete operational reports and maintain safety standards.
  • Education and enforcement of relevant provisions of the NSW Local Government Act.
  • Mentoring and providing leadership in small teams.

About you

  • You have extensive and recent lifeguarding experience.
  • You possess a strong ability to assess ocean conditions and adapt quickly.
  • You are a confident communicator with exceptional customer service skills.
  • You are physically fit
  • You positively contribute to a team environment
  • You are a proactive self-starter
  • You are practical and adaptable with a strong dedication to a safety focused Culture
  • You have a current paid working with Children Check
