We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 380,000 residents. 

The role

We are seeking a candidate to support the General Counsel unit, assisting in providing legal services to the organisation. Key responsibilities include administration tasks including managing communications, accounts management, legal research, drafting, court attendance, and related tasks. The role also involves helping the unit meet operational targets in line with the Council’s IPR requirements.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

 

  • Provide support to the General Counsel unit, drafting briefs to external legal service providers, managing external legal providers, managing the General Counsel inbox, assisting with the management of litigation, adhering to records management practices, managing the filing of court documents via the Online Court.
  • Assist with non-administrative legal services, such as legal research, drafting, court attendances and related tasks. 
  • Maintain the General Counsel unit’s intranet page, case management dashboard, and the financial records. 
  • Coordinate responses to Subpoena for Production, Discovery and Notices to Produce.

You will have

 

  • Tertiary Legal Qualification/Certificate IV in Legal Services or relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience in addressing Land and Environment Court practice in development appeals and Local Court environmental prosecutions.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills in a busy office environment.
  • High level competence in drafting written communications.
  • High level competence in computing. 
  • Experience in providing excellent customer service and responding to difficult customers 
  • Excellent communication and demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement confidentially. 

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $90,858 (Grade G, Step1) + 11.5% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
