About Us

Due to continued growth in our Environment & Sustainability division, the opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Sustainability Officer to join our highly skilled team to continue to make a true and meaningful impact on our community and deliver on the commitments in Maitland's first comprehensive Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2030.
About the Role
As our Principal Sustainability Officer, you will work in collaboration with a range of internal and external stakeholders and be responsible for the development and delivery of strategy, programs and projects that improve environmental sustainability outcomes for Council's operations and the wider Maitland Community.
You will be responsible for the research and development of strategy, policies and plans in the fields of urban and regional sustainability, with a particular focus on the business case for energy and water efficiency, energy procurement and management, renewable energy strategy, circular economy, sustainable transport and low emission fleet. Promoting innovation and acting as a technical expert by providing mentoring and strategic advice on current best practice and emerging areas of environmental sustainability, specifically technologies that support Council operations and sustainable urban development within the Maitland LGA
About You
To be successful in this role, you will hold a degree in Environmental Engineering (or related Engineering discipline), Environmental Science, Environmental Sustainability or Data Science (or related discipline), coupled with contemporary industry knowledge and demonstrated experience in environmental sustainability management in an urban setting with a focus on at least one of the following: energy efficiency, water efficiency, renewable energy, circular economy or sustainable transport and low emission fleet transitions.
You will have solid research, analytical and problem-solving skills and strong experience managing environmental sustainability projects. High level interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to quickly build strong relationships with key stakeholders is essential.
Benefits
This is a permanent full-time role working 35 hours per week with a base salary ranging from $115, 446 - $128,145 per year based on demonstrated competencies + 11.5% p.a superannuation.
