About the role
We are looking for a proactive Procurement Risk and Sustainability Officer to join our team. This role will assist in delivering best practice procurement, with a focus on sustainability and risk management, ensuring compliance with legislative and procedural requirements while maintaining probity in the Council’s decision-making processes.
The Procurement Risk and Sustainability Officer will guide and support Council staff to ensure compliance with procurement and contract management legislation, policies, and procedures. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies to address modern slavery risks, promoting social procurement initiatives, and prioritizing sustainable practices that reduce supply chain emissions. The role also involves monitoring and reporting on improvements in procurement practices, implementing systems to streamline processes and reduce risks, and delivering training to staff and suppliers.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in procurement within government and/or the private sector
- Strong knowledge/understanding of modern slavery including application and interpretation of the legislation
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying sustainable procurement practices, including developing social and indigenous procurement
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills including an ability to meet deadlines and the ability to discuss and resolve issues
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to be adaptable, flexible, able to take initiative and prioritise among competing demands
