The Opportunity
As a Purchasing Officer in the City of Perth, you will oversee the operation of the Depot store and yard, ensuring efficient procurement, inventory management, and daily operations. This role involves supervising the Stores team, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and driving modernisation initiatives.
Reporting to the Coordinator within our Fleet and Depot team, your responsibilities would primarily include:
- Responsibility for sourcing, purchasing, and reordering stock and non-stock items within delegated authority, including supplier management, fuel supply, purchase order accuracy, quality control of goods, and maintaining accurate records;
- Oversee inventory accuracy by directing store/yard staff and establishing work practices, including investigating discrepancies, updating stock records, creating new stock items, and conducting annual stocktakes;
- Ensure accurate stock movement records by liaising with stakeholders, maintaining up-to-date store procedures, managing procurement contracts, and resolving operational and administrative issues; and
- Monitor and control Depot access by verifying contractor credentials, logging visitor and delivery details, ensuring completion of site safety onboarding, and checking all vehicle loads for authorisation and accuracy.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
- Diploma in Logistics or a related field with a minimum three years’ experience in stores management, purchasing and associated tasks; or Minimum of five years’ demonstrated experience in leading teams within a purchasing stores environment as well as stock-take procedures related to civil contracting or similar;
- Demonstrated experience in researching, proposing and implementing stores-based initiatives including the introduction of an inventory barcoding system;
- High level computer skills, including proficiency in the use of software packages pertaining to stores, procurement and finance; and
- Fluent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders.
