How you’ll make a difference

Victoria Daly Regional Council is looking for a full-time Recreation Coordinator based in Katherine, NT. 

The Recreation Coordinator will work in conjunction with other programs to actively encourage the engagement of community members of all ages to participate in recreational activities within the community through the Community Safety and Wellbeing program.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. The Recreation Coordinator will work in conjunction with Community Safety and Night Patrol and independently to deliver suitable leisure, recreational and sporting activities to the community members.
  2. The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for evaluating activity interest, promoting, and coordinating the activities to be undertaken.
  3. Ensure encouragement is provided to develop and incorporate cultural activities for community members to participate in.
  4. Ensure monthly plans are created and promoted with activity reporting completed within timeframes.
  5. Work with and in conjunction with Community Safety and Night Patrol to ensure the continuation of activities absence from community.
  6. Engage in activities that may require working odd hours, evenings and after hours.
  7. Assist in the development of plans at a strategic level to ensure the effective delivery of Sport and Recreation activities in the future within the community.
  8. Work with community members to promote empowerment and encourage community ownership for all Sport and Recreational activities.

As the Victoria Daly region has a large Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population, you will need to ensure cultural sensitivity and awareness across all activities.

What you’ll bring to the team

To qualify, candidates will need proven knowledge and experience in community engagement, sport and recreation, including evaluating activity interest, promoting and coordinating activities. A Diploma in Youth Services or Community Development is desirable or extensive experience in these fields will also be considered.

Additionally, you will join with the following skills and background:

  • Ability to effectively deliver services in an ever-changing environment
  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of a cohesive team
  • Ability to develop plans, write submissions for grant applications and report writing
  • Effective consultation skills
  • Ability to manage time and be flexible 
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities
  • Work Health & Safety understanding
