Georges River Council has an exciting opportunity for a Resource Recovery Officer to join our Environment and Planning Directorate, based in Hurstville.

 

About the Role

The Resource Recovery Officer role is to assist in the operation of the waste service unit, working as part of a team to improve the use of waste collections, processing and disposal services, with a focus on reducing contamination management and maximising resource recovery.

The successful candidate will be responsible for improving the community’s use of Council’s waste services and will need high level engagement and education skills to deliver programs to residents, businesses and community organisations.

  • Permanent, Full Time - 70 hours per fortnight
  • Full time salary from $73,331.53 - $84,965.51 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation (dependent on the skills, qualifications and relevant experience of the suitable candidate)

 Key accountabilities include but are not limited to

  • Work with Council’s waste collection contractor to develop procedures to record, monitor, report and respond to incidents of contamination within general waste, commingled recycling and garden organics bins
  • Develop processes/procedures to enable contamination management incidents to be re-inspected and any improvements documented in a statistically sound manner
  • Undertake field based inspections for ongoing bin presentation/contamination management issues, and undertake waste compliance monitoring
  • Respond to incidents of contamination by notifying residents of associated impacts if unaddressed. Develop and implement innovative solutions to prevent or resolve issues related to bin contamination and to maximise resource recovery within the LGA

 

The successful candidate will have

Essential

  • Relevant experience in waste management, local government, customer service, record management or project management/administration
  • Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence

Desirable

  • High level of customer service focus, and the ability to resolve conflicts, disputes and problems effectively
  • Highly developed communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with a high level of written and oral communication skills
  • High level of organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to observe details, record information and develop databases in an accurate and legible manner to inform operational improvement from contractors and/or improved community behaviours
  • Sound level of computer literacy including the ability to analyse and interpret statistical data and use an iPad, mobile phone, camera, Microsoft Office Suite, and a diverse range of other systems and technology independently and effectively, and to adapt to technology changes and updates where required
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, as well as a member of a team
