About the Role

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the environment?

Contribute to creating an extraordinary Wollongong and strive to reduce waste and promote resource recovery through innovative projects and community engagement. As a proactive individual who can manage multiple projects and programs, you will coordinate the delivery of Council's Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy and associated plans utilising innovative solutions and practices to achieve long-term sustainable outcomes.

Collaborating with a diverse team across various functions, including operations, administration, and policy, you will engage actively with stakeholders such as government authorities, suppliers, staff, and the broader community. You continuously strive for improvement, aligning efforts with Council Values, enjoy working independently and as part of a team.

This is a permanent full-time position, salary from $107,155.12 up to $128,116.63. The salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications. This roles may also include some physical work associated with events with the possibility for occasional weekend work.

What You will be doing:

You will lead the delivery of waste and resource recovery projects, ensuring they align with our strategic goals. You will develop internal business proposals to secure necessary approvals for new processes, assets, or infrastructure, driving innovation and efficiency within our operations.

Your role will involve monitoring and regularly reporting on project progress and related waste performance indicators to various stakeholders, including internal teams and government agencies.

Providing high-quality, customer-focused services, you will manage stakeholder and customer relations, addressing correspondence and enquiries. You will engage and oversee the performance of outsourced contractors, consultants, and suppliers, ensuring they meet our standards and contribute to our objectives. Additionally, you will manage the procurement process in accordance with Council's policies and procedures, maintaining compliance and transparency. Applying WHS policies and procedures, you will ensure the health and safety of everyone at the workplace. The key projects for the first 12 months are detailed in the Wollongong Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2024-2034.

About you:

You are a self-motivated individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on the environment. You bring a blend of skills, experience, and values that align with our mission of sustainability and resource recovery. With a degree level qualification relevant to the position or a relevant advanced certificate qualification combined with comprehensive relevant experience, you bring project management experience particularly in the environmental or sustainability sectors or experience in waste management, resource recovery, or related fields. Your innovative and solution-oriented, and a strong communicator. With the ability to build and maintain strong relationships, you enjoy engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.

You are customer focused, and a team-player, comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Your dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship will drive your efforts to make a meaningful difference.
