ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Audit, Safety and Risk team sits within the Governance and Risk Directorate and is responsible for providing a wide range of internal services to the organisation focused on risk, insurance, audit and work health and safety.
The recipients of the 2022 Safework NSW – Work Health and Safety Excellence Showcase award for Champions in Large Business (Government) category, the team are concentrating on driving a collaborative approach to educating staff on safety matters that impact their day to day life. In addition, we are also ensuring Council’s internal audit plan targets our high risks areas and complies with relevant laws, standards and legislation, and making improvements across our claims process.
In contributing to the overarching vision, the Risk and Insurance Officer administer Council’s insurance portfolio, dealing with all aspects of insurance claims management, policy renewal and liaison with customers and insurance providers. The role provides support in the development and implementation of an integrated Enterprise Risk Management Framework to enable Council to achieve its goals and objectives. As well as assist the effective implementation and ongoing support of Council’s Business Continuity Plan to effectively manage potential and actual business interruptions.
The successful applicant will require:
- Relevant Certificate III or IV in Business Administration and/or relevant experience.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret legislation and relevant standards applicable to Councils in the area of risk management activities.
- Demonstrated experience in managing a complex insurance portfolio.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise, plan and organise work to meet requirements and objectives of the position.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite of applications.
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Class C drivers licence.

About this role:
- Permanent, full-time position
- 70 hour fortnight
- Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) arrangement
- Located at Council's Merrylands office, with occasional travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Grade 9 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,460.14 to $1,679.17 per week, plus 11.5% superannuation
- The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role

What you'll need to have for this role:
- The right to live and work in Australia
- Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
- Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required
- Provide evidence of your vaccination status as part of the employment screening process, in accordance with Council’s COVID-19 Vaccination Procedure.
