Your Position:
Do you have the curiosity, confidence and empathy to handle insurance claims and investigations? Are you good at building
relationships with stakeholders and understanding their business needs to help them manage their risks?
We are looking for a Risk & Claims Officer to manage insurance claims and Council's insurance portfolio, guide business units on a range of risk management matters, and support the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) and Internal Audit Function. The role will also work closely with the Manager Governance & Risk to develop and implement business improvements to support the Governance & Risk team and the wider organisation.
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Managing Council's insurance portfolio, including public liability, professional indemnity, real property, management liability, motor vehicle fleet, crime/cyber liability and industrial special risks
- Managing insurance claims and risks, including processing and investigating claims, partnering with legal specialists to minimise the impact of claims, and advising stakeholders on the management of claims and investigations
- Working with business units to maintain strategic and operational risks registers and promote effective risk management practices
- Ensuring business continuity planning is maintained, up-to-date and regularly tested
- Providing advisory and support services to the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) and the Head of Internal Audit
- Cultivating internal and external stakeholder relationships to improve risk management outcomes and promote best practice risk management
- Contributing to business improvement initiatives and projects
- Providing peer support and back-up to the Senior Governance Officer to support good governance at Council
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in a discipline such as business, governance or risk management; or significant contemporary experience in a similar role
- Experience in insurance claims and/or premiums management; or transferable experience from dispute management, customer relationship management or similar function
- Practical knowledge of contemporary enterprise risk management standards, tools and methods, and their use
- Experience with using and administering risk registers, and using and monitoring risk treatment plans
- Experience in supporting and/or reporting to Audit, Risk and Improvement Committees (or similar independent assurance committees)
- Experience in the development and maintenance of critical business documentation e.g. strategies, policies, procedures, compliance monitoring reports, business proposals, user education materials
- Good research, analytical and digital literacy skills, together with the interviewing skills needed to conduct incident investigations
- Experience in successfully driving and delivering business improvement initiatives
- Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills
- An ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
- A current Class C Drivers Licence
Additionally, you will bring to this role the following:
- The confidence, professionalism, and empathy needed to handle public enquiries or disputes about insurance claims and incident investigations, including situations where outcomes may not meet claimant expectations
- The ability to work collaboratively in a small team
- An understanding of the Civil Liability Act 2002 is desirable, but not essential
Key Requirements:
