Salary Ranging from $84,038.76 - $97,666.40 per annum + 11.5% Superannuation (Depending on Experience and Qualifications)

The Opportunity
The Senior Arborist will focus on providing technical expertise to drive private and public tree management, including providing advice for community consultation, assessment of development applications, contractor management and asset management systems. The position will be accountable for upholding Council’s Statutory obligations and Planning Instrument responsibilities for tree and vegetation management and will ensure orderly and pragmatic management of the trees and vegetation throughout the shire.
A high level of community contact and internal stakeholder liaison is required to ensure the best tree management outcomes are achieved, and to improve the quantity and quality of our urban forest and the numerous benefits they provide the community.
Essential Criteria
- Diploma of Arboriculture (AQF Level 5) combined with relevant industry experience and possess up to date Qualifications in TRAQ Assessment.
- Substantial experience in Visual Tree Assessment, Tree Hazard Evaluation, and associated reporting with demonstrated knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, SafeWork NSW Codes of Practice, and experience in their practical application in relation to the tree industry and compliance with Councils Safe Systems of Work.
- Experience in managing projects, tenders, and contractors to meet financial commitments and constraints.
- Possess strong negotiation and mediation skills in an environment with a diverse range of complex customer enquiries.
- Demonstrated Local Government Experience including knowledge of the Land and Environment Court process involving carriage of matters on behalf of Council for prosecuting and/or defence as an expert witness.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and Regulation, with proven comprehensive experience in the assessment of tree and vegetation applications utilising adopted guidelines under Council’s adopted planning instruments.
- Demonstrated high level experience in the use of Electronic Document Management systems, computer based Geographic Information Systems, Customer Request Management Systems and Asset Management Systems.
- Hold a C Class drivers' licence and WHS Induction card.
- Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical prior to commencement
