About the role 

The Senior Development Planner role is contained within the Development Planning Team within Council’s Planning Unit. The role is primarily responsible for all tasks associated with the assessment, reporting and determination of Development Applications and Subdivision Certificates.

With a focus on delivering great customer service, your demonstrated communication creates easy collaboration between teams across the business and externally to achieve desirable outcomes.

As a Council Planner you will provide expert technical advice to clients and consult with other members of Council including engineers, building surveyors, landscape officers, heritage advisors, community services department and administrative staff to assess and determine the outcomes of complex development applications.

 

Requirements 

  • Recognised tertiary qualification in Town Planning from a University or College
  • Extensive experience in the assessment and determination of development applications
  • Excellent understanding of the Environmental Planning Assessment Act 1979 and Regulation, Local Government Act 1993 and other relevant legislation
  • Undertake site inspections in association with applications
  • Utilisation of delegated authority for correspondence, approval and refusal of applications in accordance with Council’s Policy
  • Liaise with Council Solicitors and preparation of necessary documentation for Land and Environment Court proceedings and appearance as expert witness on behalf of Council
  • Eligible to be a member of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teams
  • Mentor and coach development assessment officers and undertake Peer Reviews of development applications
  • Outstanding time management skills including the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to provide both internal and external customers quality service that exceeds their expectations
  • Strong computer skills and ability to operate computer-based systems
  • Class C Driver’s licence
