ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Governance team sits within the Governance and Risk Directorate and are focused on delivering effective education across the organisation with regard to procurement and governance processes and partnering with various units to achieve the best outcomes for the organisation.

The team are responsible for the delivery of Access to Information (GIPA) services, planning and executing citizenship ceremonies, policy and delegation management, providing administrative support to Council and various committees, providing governance advice, ensuring that Council procurement activities are in accordance with legislation and guidelines, delivering robust tender processes and ensuring all contracts are managed effectively.

This role is responsible for supporting the Coordinator Governance in ensuring all administrative requirements are adhered to and timelines are met with regard to all Council meetings. This role is responsible for the administration coordination function within the Governance department and also supports Committees, such as Council’s Local Planning Panel. This role also coordinates and delivers citizenship ceremonies.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Relevant business administration qualifications or the equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to coordinate the preparation of high quality meeting agenda papers for Council and Committee meetings to strict deadlines.
  • Superior level of organisational and coordination skills, including the ability to work in a fast paced environment to deliver on deadlines.
  • Excellent Oral and Written communication skills, with high attention to detail including high proficiency in grammar and spelling.
  • High level knowledge and working experience with corporate systems such as MS office, TRIM or TechnologyOne ECM Electronic Document Management Systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Council meeting procedures in accordance with the Code of Meeting Practice.
  • Ability to effectively liaise with and manage the expectations of key stakeholders across the organisation in a positive manner with respect to governance requests.
  • Superior word processing and keyboard skills, including the ability to work under pressure and take live minutes in Council and Committee meetings.
  • Experience working within the Local Government sector, including knowledge of protocols and procedures relating to Civic functions.
  • Experience working within financial budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to make judgements or recommendations based on advanced analytical or creative thought.
  • Working with Children Check.

About this role: 

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 70 hour fortnight
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)
  • Located at Council's Merrylands office, with occasional travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations
  • This role is required to work on Wednesday evenings on a rotational basis, to support the administration Council/ Committee meetings with paid overtime offered

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award

  • Grade 11 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,714.07 to $1,971.18 per week , plus 11.5% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
