The Opportunity
As a Senior Transport Engineer in the City of Perth, you are primarily responsible for the design of traffic engineering projects to maintain and improve the transport networks in the City. The position will develop projects from the initial feasibility stage through to concept design and working with internal teams through delivery, ensuring projects meet the required design standards and safety requirements. The position will also undertake other traffic engineering tasks such as Road Safety Audits, review of Traffic Impact Assessments as well as mentor and supervise junior staff members.
Reporting to the Urban Transport Lead within our Transport & Urban Design team, your responsibilities would primarily include:
- Take a lead role in the concept design and development of traffic engineering projects and programs such as the City’s Two-way Streets program, Parallel Walks program, and Cycle;
- Provide technical advice to assist in the delivery of capital works projects including major streetscape upgrades, intersection modifications, and traffic management schemes;
- Undertake the analysis of crash statistics, accident investigations, and research, determine and design accident remedial measures and prepare Black Spot funding submissions; and
- Develop project briefs and manage the delivery of projects through the design phase including budget control, quality control, and the management of consultants and contractors.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
- Tertiary qualification in traffic engineering, transport planning, civil engineering, or other relevant discipline with proven industry experience;
- Extensive experience in traffic engineering design and traffic operations in the urban context preferably in Australia and in a Local Government environment;
- Demonstrated knowledge and contemporary best practice experience in traffic engineering including Road Safety Audits and the review of Traffic Impact Assessments; and
- Demonstrated skills and experience in the plan, design and delivery of traffic engineering projects
