Title: Senior Urban Designer, Temporary - Full-time Role, 35 hours per week

Salary Range: $127091.32 to $147701.84 per annum + super (subject to skills and experience)

Strategic and Place Planning

Strategic and Place Planning develops sustainable land use and design strategies, policies and plans for Council’s diverse range of localities, including established urban areas, urban renewal activity centres, future growth areas, rural, and environmentally significant areas.

 

The Strategic and Place Planning Business Unit delivers the following services:

•    Strategic Land-Use Planning and Planning Proposal assessment

•    Land Use Policy Development

•    Urban Land Release

•    Heritage and Structure Planning

•    Place Planning and Urban Design

•    Infrastructure Contributions Planning and administration

 

Key projects our team is currently working on include Place Plans for Manly and Mona Vale, a Structure Plan for Brookvale centre, a Conservation Zones review, preparation of new comprehensive Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan, Infrastructure Contributions Plan for the Frenchs Forest town centre, a Modern Heritage Study, and a review of Council’s Affordable Housing Policy.

Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic & Place Planning this role will work closely and collaboratively with the Development Assessment Business Unit and other relevant business units within council on a project team basis.

 

The role of the Senior Urban Designer is to be a subject matter expert in provision of advisory services to the Strategic and Place Planning team and the Development Assessment Business Unit to assist with various projects and application referrals. The role is responsible for the development of sustainable land use and urban design strategies for Council's diverse regions, from established urban areas, through to urban renewal areas, future growth centres, rural and environmentally critical areas

 

About you :

With relevant urban design tertiary qualifications and significant experience in areas of strategic and place planning, you will have extensive experience in master planning and urban design processes and projects.  You will also have experience in reading and interpreting LEPs and DCPs and have a sound understanding of Local Government legislative frameworks.  Exceptional communication skills, demonstrated experience in the Land and Environment Court, and sound political acumen are essential.  The ability to cultivate and foster effective stakeholder relationships internally and externally is crucial as is the ability to balance competing community and Council priorities.
