About the role
Woollahra Council has a fantastic opportunity for an qualified and enthusiastic Solicitor to join our team on a temporary basis. This role sits within our newly created in-house Legal Services Unit which is responsible for the provision of high quality and responsive legal services across the organisation.
You will conduct the day to day management of legal matters under the supervision of the General Counsel, whilst providing a high-level customer experience to community and staff.
About you
We are seeking a qualified legal professional with experience providing legal advice across a broad range of law matters. You will have excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to work in a fast-pace environment. You will be a high achiever with:
- Relevant legal qualifications and eligibility for admission to the Supreme Court of NSW to practice as a solicitor.
- Experience providing legal advice in one or more areas of law including planning, privacy, tendering, property, contract, information access, governance and environmental compliance.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing high level of customer experience with the ability to manage sensitive matters.
- Well-developed analytical thinking, creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Dependable organisation skills to managing competing priorities and Court set filing dates.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in the conduct litigation in the Land and Environment Court, the Local Court and other courts and tribunals.
- Collection and preparation of evidence for criminal prosecutions.
- Experience in a legal practice, in-house counsel or government lawyer.
- Experience in local government.
