About the role

Woollahra Council has an exciting opportunity available for one lucky Student who has substantially completed their planning or heritage conservation studies to join our team on a temporary full time basis for a period of 12 months. In this role you will gain solid knowledge and hands-on experience from professionals within the heritage conservation, planning and placemaking industry

As our Student - Stategic Planning & Place, you will collaborate with and assist our highly skilled team of Strategic Planners and Heritage Officers. Some of your daily duties will include:

- Research, preparation, review and updates of strategic, urban planning, placemaking and heritage policies and projects

- Research, preparation and presentation of reports on heritage and strategic planning matters

- Providing information and consulting with the community

About you

Essential Criteria

  • Currently studying in 3rd or 4th year to obtain an undergraduate degree or substantially completed a postgraduate Masters degree in either Heritage Conservation or Environmental Planning / Urban & Regional Planning (recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia) or be studying for a degree in a closely related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Well-developed skills in the use of PC office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A proficiency in research and problem solving, with particular attention to detail and providing clear concise advice.
  • Time management skills, with an ability to balance priorities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of quality customer service.
  • The ability to provide a proactive and creative input into the operation of a team of multi-skilled professionals.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to WHS and EEO principles.
  • Class C drivers licence or equivalent.

Desirable Criteria

  • Hands-on experience in the preparation, assessment and implementation of policies, strategies and/or heritage conservation documents.
  • Hands on experience in website maintenance.
  • Hands on experience with InDesign or other similar graphic design package.
