Salary Range: $1,654 - $1,888 per 35 hour week + superannuation
If you’re an expert in managing expenses, assets, and creditors with a passion for financial integrity and leadership, this is your chance to step into a pivotal role within our dynamic team!
As the Supervisor Assets and Expenditure, you’ll be at the helm of managing key financial areas, from creditors and debtors to the asset register, all while ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. You’ll take the lead in preparing accurate financial reports, overseeing key reconciliations, and providing expert guidance on financial projects that directly impact our local community.
In this role you will supervise and drive the financial operations related to creditors, debtors, and asset management, oversee the creditors system, manage payments and disbursements, and monitor credit card activities, so we're looking for someone with a strong background in financial management, particularly with expenses and assets, a deep understanding of accounting standards and regulations. Attention to detail is critical in this role.
You will excel in communicating financial details clearly and effectively to all stakeholders, as you will be working closely with other departments to maintain and reconcile a detailed asset register across multiple asset classes, contributing to development of asset management plans, collaborating on the implementation of financial systems, assisting with the preparation of Council’s Annual Financial Statements and working alongside senior management to develop policies and ensure strategic financial objectives are met with accuracy and efficiency.
You will need to have hands on financial management experience and leadership skills to mentor, supervise, and motivate your team to achieve excellence in their roles while ensuring high standards of performance and collaboration.

This position can be located in either Coonabarabran or Coolah, however, the team is located in Coonabarabran so you will be required to spend a reasonable amount of time in the Coonabarabran office to ensure adequate team support and supervision.
Coonabarabran, known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, which is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane and is known for its magnificent landscape and stunning night skies. The town has medical services, excellent schools, a variety of sporting and social clubs and a thriving tourism industry. With the nearby Warrumbungle National Park, which is also Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, there is plenty to do and explore whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation.
Coolah is situated on the picturesque Coolaburragundy River and nestled in a valley of the Liverpool Range. The town is surrounded by undulating hills and fertile river flats and is an attractive service town for the surrounding agricultural district. Only an hour south east of Coonabarabran, close to major centres of Dubbo and Mudgee, and with the nearby Coolah Tops National Park offering rugged natural beauty and adventure, Coolah delivers the best of country living.
Selection criteria include:
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field, and/or extensive experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, creditors, and asset accounting within local government or a similar environment.
- Experience with financial management information systems, with a preference for Authority (Civica) or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of Local Government Code of Accounting Practice and Financial Reporting, Accounting Standards, and relevant legislation.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and management
- Previous experience working in local government or public sector environments is a plus
- Class C driver’s licence
