SUPPORT WORKER TEAM LEADER

What we are looking for

At Mid-Western Regional Council we are seeking a Support Worker Team Leader. As part of your role, you will deliver training, provide supervision and support the ADE employees, as well as assisting them in meeting their goals and obtaining new skills to increase employability, while ensuring compliance with safety and NDIS requirements. Also, you will expand the services and employment opportunities provided by the disability service
and ensure timely production through the materials recovery facility.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with an ever-changing dynamic team within the 2022 Bluett award-winning Western Regional Council. This role is a full-time permanent opportunity working 38 hours per week based in Mudgee. The salary range offered for this position is $2633.20 - $2963.90 gross per fortnight plus superannuation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supervision of supported workers in the recycling shed to ensure work activities are carried out in
    accordance with Council’s safety requirements.
  • Support employees with a disability to achieve their employment goals and strengthen their motivation to
    learn new skills in sustainable supported employment.
  • Lead staff meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Complete and document daily inspections of buildings and equipment, report and organise repairs
    and maintenance as required.
  • Effectively guide and mentor people with a disability and handle unique challenges with
    professionalism and compassion.
  • Gathering of comprehensive case based evidence (notes) to support and maintain the funding agreement
    through NDIS.
  • Cover other staff leave including ironing, truck runs, operating the forklift or skid steer, as required.
  • Coordinate the general support needs of the supported workers employed through Councils Australian
    Disability Enterprise.
  • Assist to maximise production through training and mentoring of supported workers.
  • To actively promote and demonstrate the core values and behavioural requirements of the Workplace
    Environment Statement.
  • Promote community integration by providing advocacy, emotional and social supports.
  • Develop weekly rosters providing opportunities for supported workers whilst ensuring all collections
    and processing tasks are completed.

Some of the essentials for success in the role include:

  • TAFE Certificate III – Disability Services.
  • NDIS workers orientation module.
  • NDIS workers screen or current WWCC and police checks.
  • Two years’ experience working with people with a disability.
  • HR’ class drivers’ licence or willingness to obtain this in the first 6 months.
  • High risk work licence forklift or willingness to obtain this in the first 6 months.
  • Competency in skid steer operations.
  • Sound knowledge of current sector legislation and best practice.
  • Comprehensive computer skills in Microsoft office and similar applications.
  • Moderate skills in providing proactive support through change.
  • Moderate skills in training staff with a disability.
  • Experience in working in a production environment.
  • The willingness and ability to guide and mentor people with a disability.
  • The capacity to handle the unique challenges that are faced daily at an ADE with
    professionalism and compassion.
  • The willingness to work alongside people with a disability to encourage, support and
    teach new skills.
  • The ability to reconcile workplace support and home based support.
  • The ability to assist with rostering employees and filling workforce gaps day to day.
  • Capacity to implement required WHS policies and safe work practices.
  • A passion for assisting people with a disability into the workforce and improving their quality of life.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety (WHS) responsibilities and a commitment to attending
    relevant WHS training.
