Reports to: Supervisor Warrumbungle Water Reticulation
Salary Range: $1,259 - $1,436 per 38 hour week + superannuation, with a fortnightly RDO!
As the Team Leader Reticulation North, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and emergency repair of water and sewer systems across the northern end of Warrumbungle Shire Council. You’ll lead a team committed to providing safe drinking water that meets NSW Health standards and Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, contributing directly to the health and well-being of the Warrumbungle Shire community. Your leadership will drive excellence and innovation while maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards.
In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll inspire and manage the Reticulation North team, focusing on high performance, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency. You’ll be responsible for coordinating daily operations, driving preventive and reactive maintenance, and ensuring the team swiftly addresses any system faults. With a deep technical understanding of water reticulation systems, you’ll be hands-on in troubleshooting and resolving issues while fostering a collaborative, safety-focused work culture.
To excel in this role, you’ll need a proven track record of leadership and the ability to motivate and develop your team. Strong planning, coordination, and time management skills are essential, along with the capacity to manage complex priorities in a fast-paced environment. Your innovative mindset and proactive problem-solving approach will be key to overcoming challenges and delivering exceptional service. As you work closely with internal and external stakeholders, your ability to build relationships with contractors, customers, and community members will be crucial.
You will be expected to participate in a rotating on-call roster for emergency call-outs, including ability to be on-site in Coonabarabran within 30 minutes for any emergency call-out and within 30 minutes plus travel time to calls at other centres in the group.

This position is located in the beautiful town of Coonabarabran, known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, which is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane and is known for its beautiful landscape and stunning night skies. The town has medical services, excellent schools, a variety of sporting and social clubs and a thriving tourism Industry. With the nearby Warrumbungle National Park, which is also Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, there is plenty to do and explore whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation.
Selection criteria include:
- As a minimimum you will be a qualified plumber and licensed with Department of Fair Trading or able to become so within a reasonable time as you will be supervising apprentices
- Demonstrated working knowledge of AS 3500: Plumbing and Drainage; Water Services of Australia Association Water and Sewerage Codes
- Proficient in the operation and maintenance of water supply and wastewater reticulation systems
- OHS Construction Induction Certificate (“whitecard”)
- Willingness to undertake ongoing training and professional development and support team members to do so
- Class C driver’s licence (an MR drivers licence would be even better)
It is a plus if you have experience working in local government or a similar environment; knowledge of Liquid Trade Waste Regulations; and any of the following tickets:
- Current Traffic Controller and Traffic Management Implementer tickets
- Excavator and backhoe VOC
- Current confined space, working at heights and chemical handling training
- Level 1 Chainsaw ticket
