Description

Department: Urban Services and Facilities

Reports to: Manager Urban Services and Facilities

Salary Range: $1,207 - $1,378 per 38 hour week + superannuation

Are you passionate about maintaining beautiful, functional, and welcoming public spaces? Do you enjoy leading a team and taking pride in the presentation of your town’s parks, gardens, and recreational areas? Warrumbungle Shire Council is seeking a hands-on, community-focused Team Leader Urban Services, based at Mendooran, to coordinate and deliver a wide range of town maintenance activities. This is a rewarding role for someone who wants to contribute directly to the liveability of Mendooran and the wellbeing of its residents and visitors.

In this varied and active role, you’ll be responsible for leading a small team to maintain Mendooran’s urban landscapes, including sporting grounds, cemeteries, footpaths, gardens, and street trees. You’ll prepare weekly work schedules, coordinate contractors when required, operate and maintain machinery and equipment, particularly ride-on mowers, and tractor with attachments, and work within budgets and timelines. A crucial aspect of this role involves ensuring the cleanliness and hygiene of public toilets and change rooms, so we want to be clear – this task is essential, ongoing, and equally important as all other urban services responsibilities.

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring a strong background in horticulture, landscaping, or turf management, along with practical skills in operating small plant and irrigation equipment. Your leadership will be key to motivating the team, maintaining high safety standards, and responding to community needs with professionalism and care. A Certificate III in Horticulture (or equivalent experience), an LR driver’s licence, White Card, and Traffic Controller ticket are essential, with additional tickets like a chainsaw licence, chemical handling certification, or First Aid seen as highly desirable.
