We are currently seeking applications from candidates who are interested in undertaking a full-time position as a Trainee – Finance position with Hawkesbury Council.
Commencing in February 2025, the Trainee – Finance Officer position is an exciting way to kickstart your Local Government career in Finance and Accounting. This position is for a 2 year period and the purpose of the role is to learn and provide accounting and administrative support to the Finance Branch. You will do this whilst studying a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping and will be supported with allocated time to complete your course during working hours.
About You
You will demonstrate basic knowledge of accounting functions and a basic understanding of reconciliation processes, (which could have been acquired through completion of Business or Commerce related subjects at school). You will be eager to learn and enthusiastic to commit to on-the-job and formal training components of a traineeship. You will have strong communication skills, both written and verbal which will enable you to provide excellent customer service. You will also have experience using computers, including the use of computer applications like Microsoft Office.
You will be open and responsive to feedback and be able to demonstrate your interest in supporting Hawkesbury Council’s purpose ‘To build a Hawkesbury that is loved by its people’.

Essential Criteria
- Knowledge of basic accounting functions (including completion of Commerce or Business subjects at school)
- In principle understanding of reconciliation processes
- Administrative experience
- Customer service skills and experience
- Experience with computers / Microsoft Office / Data Entry
- Professional verbal and written communication skills
- Working with Children Check (WWCC) (if over 18 years of age)
It is also essential that you do not already possess a Certificate III or higher-level qualification.
Applicants should note that continuing employment beyond the 2 year traineeship period cannot be guaranteed.
