The role 

This is a 24-month traineeship in Certificate III in Horticulture with a potential pathway into an Apprenticeship in Sports Turf Management. In conjunction with your studies through TAFE to attain your qualification, you will be working in our Parks Maintenance team to help maintain Council’s parks, reserves, sports fields and cemeteries and other recreational assets.

In this position you will operate and maintain park maintenance plant and equipment and contribute to the upkeep of natural assets such as trees, shrubs, groundcover plantings, street garden beds, floral displays and turf areas.   

 The role requires that you: 

  • Have a genuine interest and aptitude for working in Council's community spaces
  • Have a clear motivation and drive to develop your career in this field
  • Can demonstrate diligence in your past studying and/or work history
  • Have a minimum P1 drivers license

Please note that to be a successful candidate for this role you’ll be required to complete a pre-employment basic skills assessment and medical check (medical assessment will include a drug and alcohol test, sight and hearing, functional and medical component).

Commencement: Successful Trainees and Apprentices will commence on Tuesday, 28 January 2025.  

Remuneration: You will be paid in accordance with the Traineeship pay scale as outlined in the Local Government (State) Award 2023 plus superannuation. 

Location: Upon commencement your normal place of work will be the MidCoast Council Depot located at 36 Arkwright Crescent Taree. You will also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region. 

Tenure:

  • Fixed term 24 months
  • Full-time 38 hours per week with a fortnightly rostered day off
