Wingecarribee Shire Council invites you to dive into an exciting Traineeship opportunity within our vibrant Water Services Branch. Located amidst the stunning Southern Highlands, this position offers more than just a job – it's a gateway to a fulfilling career in an industry vital to our community and environment.

The trainee position plays an important role in supporting the operations and maintenance of Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Water Treatment Plants (WTP) and Wastewater Treatment Plants (STPs), pump stations and water & wastewater distribution networks to meet customer and environmental obligations. Under the guidance and mentoring of experienced staff, the Trainee role will be provided an opportunity to develop skills, experience and knowledge in operational activities, to satisfy the competencies related to an assistant operator as defined by the training plan. As part of the traineeship, the role will be required to attend training with a designated Registered Training Organisation.

Essential Criteria

  1. Completion of Year 10 with satisfactory outcomes (Record of School Achievement (RoSA).
  2. Suitable Literacy, numeracy and digital literacy skills to manage the educational and professional requirements of the traineeship. Basic computer literacy, including experience / knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to training and to personal development with a focus on planning and organising competing priorities.
  4. A genuine interest in an operation and maintenance role within the Water & Sewer Industry.
  5. Able to satisfy basic manual handling and physical health requirements of the position, and a willingness to work in an outdoor environment.
  6. Ability to work as part of team.
  7. Ability to develop sound knowledge and understanding of Work Health Safety.
  8. Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical prior to commencement.
