Reports to: Crew Leader Recycling/Transfer Stations

Salary Range: $1,044 - $1,191 per 38 hour week + superannuation

Are you passionate about environmental sustainability and waste management? We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Waste and Recycling Operator to join our team. In this dynamic role, you'll contribute to the efficient and responsible operation of the Council's waste and recycling services, ensuring a clean and safe environment for the community. As part of our team, you'll operate various plant and equipment, ensure smooth day to day operation of the waste transfer station, and promote recycling efforts to help reduce environmental impact.

Key responsibilities include regulating waste loads, directing the public to appropriate disposal areas, and performing cash receipting duties at the waste facility. You'll also play a vital role in maintaining a well-organized and clean facility, assisting with traffic control, and ensuring a safe work environment. On occasion, you'll be required to relieve on the garbage truck, helping to keep our communities tidy and sustainable, so an HR licence is essential.

This position is located in Dunedoo, the southern gateway to the Warrumbungle Region. Dunedoo is set amongst the rolling hills and valleys surrounding the Talbragar River, with quaint shops and cafes, a classic country pub, and the majestic beauty of Dunedoo's Silo Art which is part of the Australian Silo Art Trail. Selection criteria include:

  • A good understanding of safety in an industrial environment
  • Occupational Health and Safety Construction Induction certificate (“white card”)
  • WorkCover Forklift Ticket
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills required to:
    • Communicate effectively with members of the public, 
    • Complete risk assessments and timesheets
  • Cash handling ability including ability to reconcile gate takings
  • Counting and record keeping ability to administer Container Deposit Scheme counter
  • Class HR NSW Drivers Licence.
  • Experience operating plant such as loader, dozer or telehandler, preferably with tickets or VOC, is a plus!

It's also a bonus if you have knowledge of waste management recycling principles, Waste Transfer Station operations, Council fees and charges, and Container Deposit Scheme activities
