  • Permanent Full-Time position working 76 hours per fortnight
  • Salary range from $75,000 to $87,000 plus superannuation
  • Work independently and as part of a small team

We’re looking for a passionate Waste and Sustainability Officer who is keen to contribute to our community.

About the role

In this position, you will play a key role in leading our town's initiatives to accomplish the goals and implement the measures outlined in our waste and sustainability strategies. Your responsibilities will be crucial in facilitating communication with both internal and external stakeholders on matters related to waste management and sustainability across various town activities, including:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for waste enquiries.
  • Collaborate with rangers to govern and monitor illegal dumping activities.
  • Oversee contract management for waste-related services.
  • Implement and coordinate actions within the Sustainability Strategy
  • Organise Events and Waste Education with WMRC
  • Assist with the development and review of policies and procedures relevant to waste and sustainability

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualifications in Environmental Management, Sustainability, Waste Management or other related disciplines and or extensive work experience in a related area will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in managing community and other stakeholder liaison and involvement
  • Sound knowledge of the principles of waste avoidance and resource recovery, and of environmental sustainability issues.
  • Sound knowledge of the waste and recycling industry, particularly as it relates to and impacts upon, the activities and responsibilities of local government.
  • Effective procurement and contract management skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships and confidentiality with high level stakeholders including executives, councillors and the community.
  • Excellent attention to detail combined with organisational and time management skills.
  • Computer literacy, including GIS, electronic data analysis, financial and record management. In particular, extensive experience with the Microsoft Office Suite of products, with the ability to prepare written reports and other correspondence.
