About the role

The City of Canning are looking for a skilled Waste Service Operator with extensive experience operating heavy-rigid vehicles, trucks and related plant and machinery.

Reporting to the Supervisor Waste Collection, this full-time permanent position is responsible for providing a timely waste collection and disposal service, and ensuring professional customer service to the City’s residents and customers.

A snapshot of your new role:

  • Operate a variety of plant and vehicles including (but not limited to) Side-loading Rubbish & Recycle trucks, Schaffer Loaders, and Rear-loading Litter & Verge trucks
  • Act as vehicle custodian, performing pre-starts, vehicle logs and routine daily maintenance
  • Collect and maintain 240 litre mobile garbage bins
  • Collect verge-side green waste, including illegally dumped material
  • Litter collection, including park and street bins
  • Repair, assemble and deliver bins, including installation of street litter bins
  • Assist in training and coaching new team members, where required
  • Assist the Supervisor in resolving customer enquiries and complaints

Who we’re looking for:

  • HR truck license - minimum “HR-A”
  • Waste industry experience and solid history operating heavy-rigid vehicles/trucks
  • Proven experience operating other waste collection vehicles and associated plant and machinery
  • Professional, customer-focused and team orientated
  • Ability to carry out physically demanding tasks in a safe manner in all weather conditions
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks
  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance (under six months)
