The role
As a Water Process Planning Engineer, you will play a key role in managing and designing water, sewer, and recycled water treatment plant augmentation projects. You will oversee projects from initiation through to the completion of the concept design phase, ensuring that they are completed on time, on budget, and meet MidCoast Council’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, process design, and management of water and sewer infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered within scope, on time, and within budget.
- Prepare and review high-quality process designs, business cases, design reports, and cost estimates. Ensure accuracy, reliability, and alignment with council objectives and stakeholder requirements.
- Develop feasible plant upgrade strategies and concept designs to meet future demands and improve operational efficiency.
- Assist with or lead assessments of plant site capacities to ensure infrastructure meets future needs.
- Collaborate with engineers and the Water Management & Treatment department to ensure accurate system loadings and process criteria are used for existing and new systems.
What We’re Looking For:
- Degree level qualification in Chemical (Process) Engineering, Environmental Engineering or similar discipline, with a focus on water and sewer systems.
- Proven experience in managing water and sewer infrastructure projects, including design and process management.
- Strong technical skills in preparing process designs, reports, and cost estimates.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.

Salary: Base salary $91,000 p.a. - $100,000 p.a. plus superannuation (commencing salary will be negotiated with the successful candidate depending on qualifications, skills and experience)
Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
