The Role

The Work, Health & Safety Manager role is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and improvement of the North Sydney Council WHS and Wellbeing Management System, whilst actively promoting a safe workplace culture across Council. This position will lead and provide Workplace Health and Safety advice and support to multiple stakeholders across our sites; conduct inspections, audits, safety investigations and manage Council’s workers compensation claims and return to work programmes. The Manager also supervises the WHS Officer, who provides functional administrative support and administration of workers compensation claims and injury management. 

The Person 

You are someone who has a genuine passion to drive safety culture and enjoys supporting and empowering others in promoting a safe working environment across all areas, including trades personnel and office-based staff. You will possess a strong ability to organise and prioritise yourself to meet conflicting deadlines amongst a fast-paced environment. You will be able to balance both day to day requirements with longer term projects.

You will be focussed and organised with skills in WHS systems and a commitment to continuous improvement. You will be a hands-on person able to build strong relationships and deliver outcomes both in a team and working autonomously.

This position will be instrumental in leading and influencing a safe working culture. 

The position is based at Council Chambers, located in a beautiful park setting, close to public transport, bicycle routes and recreational facilities.

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS and/or Risk Management
  • Computer and software literacy, understanding of OHS software (programs)
  • Understanding of WHS and Workers Compensation legislation and best practice
  • Qualifications and/or experience relevant to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of an online platform to meet statutory obligations and control risk
  • Accreditation in Return-to-Work coordination
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and minimal supervision
  • Strong administrative experience and skills
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Current Driver’s Licence 

Desirable

  • Supervisory experience and skills
  • Project and/or change management skills and experience
  • Experience in electronic records management
  • Experience in auditing or supporting auditing

Salary Range: $107,336.77 to $128,169.79 per annum + $1,000 pa Transport allowance + 11.5% superannuation (pro rata).
