About the position:
The City of Greater Geraldton is seeking a dedicated Work Health and Safety (WHS) Advisor for our Depot. In this role, you will collaborate closely with all Maintenance Operations staff to provide essential support, guidance, and direction on Work Health and Safety matters.

The WHS Advisor - Depot, will also work in partnership with the City’s Work Health and Safety Team and Committee. Your responsibilities will include assisting workplace Health and Safety Representatives in fostering a safe work culture and driving continuous improvement in Health and Safety practices. This includes data collection and analysis, as well as sharing vital WHS knowledge with all staff.

This position works a 9 day fortnight with every second Friday as a non-working day

Key accountabilities:

  • Assist supervisors, employees and project teams in the implementation of the City’s WHS Management System policies, procedures and processes to support compliance with relevant WHS legislation and other requirements.
  • Conduct workplace observations, inspections, WHS monitoring and auditing of project, contract and volunteer work activities as required.
  • Conduct WHS risk assessments and facilitate operational WHS planning with work teams, including the preparation of SWMS, JHS’s and other risk measures as required throughout the City.
  • Support the City system for managing contractors, labour hire and volunteers through site auditing and desktop review of relevant WHS records, practices and information.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to implement the City’s WHS Management System and hazard management priorities as required.

Position requirements:

The successful applicant requires previous experience in the practical application of Work Health and Safety principles, standards and processes in a variety of work settings including the conduct of hazard inspections, audits, risk assessments, accident/incident investigations, tool box meetings, and training and advising internal stakeholders.

Additionally, this position requires comprehensive communication skills with a proven ability to build and sustain partnerships as well as negotiate and influence at all levels in order to continuously improve corporate and operational WHS performance.

Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.

Remuneration and benefits:

The Work Health & Safety Advisor - Depot (Ref: 1106) position has a salary starting from $84,883 per annum or $42.9568 per hour, offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
