About the position:
The Work Health and Safety Advisor position at the City of Greater Geraldton (the City) is to assist in the implementation, ongoing maintenance and review of the City WHS Management System and its application to health and safety planning and performance.

Key accountabilities:
Assist supervisors, employees and project teams in the implementation of the City’s WHS Management System policies, procedures and processes to support compliance with relevant WHS legislation and other requirements.

Conduct workplace observations, inspections, WHS monitoring and auditing of project, contract and volunteer work activities as required.

Conduct WHS risk assessments and facilitate operational WHS planning with work teams, including the preparation of SWMS, JHS’s and other risk measures as required throughout the City.

Support the City system for managing contractors, labour hire and volunteers through site auditing and desktop review of relevant WHS records, practices and information.

Develop and deliver training programs to implement the City’s WHS Management System and hazard management priorities as required.

Position requirements:
The successful applicant requires previous experience in the practical application of Work Health and Safety principles, standards and processes in a variety of work settings including the conduct of hazard inspections, audits, risk assessments, accident/incident investigations, tool box meetings, and training and advising internal stakeholders.

Additionally, this position requires comprehensive communication skills with a proven ability to build and sustain partnerships as well as negotiate and influence at all levels in order to continuously improve corporate and operational WHS performance.

Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.

Remuneration and benefits:

The Work Health & Safety Advisor (Ref: 1380) position has a salary starting from $84,883 per annum or $42.9568 per hour, offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
